MagDen

Overdentures that use magnetic attachments obtain retention by installing a magnet in the interior of the denture and installing a keeper in the remaining root of the tooth or implant that is to be used as an abutment.
Compared to other mechanical retentive appliances like the bar attachment or ball attachment , abrasion and damage to the remaining abutment or implant is smaller with magnetic attachments.

Damage occurs in overdentures in the areas where the attachments are positioned due to the thin denture base, or due to the difference in masticatory force exerted onto the soft and hard tissues, the natural tooth or the implant.
The greatest advantage of mechanical retentive appliances is that it offers high retention,
but the force directed to the tooth or soft tissue below is also high, so one must be prepared for any possible fracture that may occur.

The magnetic attachment system is one that is appropriate for the security of stability and retention of the denture base when the abutment is suffering from periodontal disease, making it difficult to withstand high masticatory force.
